Soneto XLIV
Neruda
You must know I do not love you though I do
Since life is both a means and an end
Silence is the wing of my word
Passion is half indifference
I love only to begin to love you
to begin infinity again
And so my love will never cease
That is why I cannot love you and yet
I do as if I held in my hands the keys to fortune
and the uncertain destiny of the wretched
That is why I love you when I don’t and why I love you when I do

You may laugh, but when Neruda's sonnet is read aloud, does it follow a sonnet pattern -ababcdcdefefgg, etc....(I taught sonnets to a class recently and we were finding the rhyme scheme). It would be great to show a Latin American sonnet that has the same features as the English or Italian sonnet. I'm sure it is beautiful and your poem is as well.
I forget the sonnet patterns, is it just ababcdcd, aa, bb, cc, dd
or is there more?
If it is just the two, then it doesn't really seem to.
